Welcome to Thread and Threshold Psychotherapy. I'm Shira Collings, a Licensed Professional Counselor offering psychotherapy in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. I specialize in perinatal loss and complex reproductive experiences, including abortion and termination for medical reasons, infertility, ambivalence about parenthood, pregnancy after loss, and birth trauma.
In addition, I specialize in eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns. My work is grounded in Health at Every Size and fat liberation, and I am especially passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent folks in recovery from eating disorders and disordered eating.
I also work with clients navigating trauma, grief and loss, queer identity, neurodivergence, and major life transitions.
My therapeutic approach centers on making room for the complexity, grief, strength, and meaning that can emerge as we explore our reproductive stories, relationship with food and body, and broader identities.
My approach is feminist, relational, and person-centered. That means I see therapy as a collaborative process - one where your lived experience, wisdom, and agency are honored. I believe healing happens in relationship, and I pay close attention to the dynamics between us as well as the broader systems that shape our lives. I'm interested in how past and present experiences connect, how identity forms and transforms, and how we carry stories in our bodies. I don’t come to our work with an agenda or path you must follow - I come with curiosity, care, and a commitment to creating a space that is affirming, nonjudgmental, and deeply respectful of who you are.
My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming, neurodiversity affirming, and aligned with disability justice and Health At Every Size. I welcome all the parts of you - especially the ones that feel tender, uncertain, or out of place - and I hold them with compassion and care.

Even if your insurance provider is not listed, you may be eligible for some out-of-network coverage. I am able to provide detailed superbills, which are receipts with diagnostic codes on them that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many clients are able to receive partial or full reimbursement depending on their plan.
My out-of-pocket rate is $180 per session, with some sliding scale availability.
